Softbank Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SH slider

Softbank Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SH sliderYou may have thought that the HTC Touch HD packed in the pixels, but along comes the Aquos Fulltouch 931SH slider mobile phone from Softbank and Sharp with 1024 x 480 3.8 inch touch-screen, which is virtually the same resolution as a netbook!

Apart from the screen, the Aquos Fulltouch 931SH is a fairly solid feature phone from Softbank that features the likes of 3G, 5.2 megapixel camera with image stabiliser, 1seg TV tuner, browser, Bluetooth with A2DP, media player, accelerometer and a microSD expansion slot.

Basically all the regular stuff you’d fine in a feature phone, but the big pull has to be that high pixel screen. No word on availability or pricing though.

Is your Apple iPhone having WiFi Connection Problems?

Is your Apple iPhone having WiFi Connection Problems? There appears to be a problem with the WiFi connection on the Apple iPhone and iPhone 3G. iPhone Atlas first reported this problem and has apparently received an overwhelming response from their readers commenting on this issue.

One reader commented…they have a first generation iPhone 8GB and a WiFi network in their house that gives connection to their laptop from across the road, but with the iPhone it has to virtually be held over the Linksys to get a WiFi connection.

Another says…My iPhone 3G loses WiFi connection intermittently, sometimes coming back on its own other times not. Often other wireless networks appear and sometimes not.

So there does seem to be a substantial problem with the Apple iPhone WiFi, and the word is Apple is replacing iPhones with WiFi problems noting “Hardware issues.” More of these comments can be found at source.

Video: Motorola AURA Introduction Part 1 plus specs

Video: Motorola AURA Introduction Part 1 plus specsGot to love the all new quad-band GSM Motorola Aura mobile phone, this is so distinctive in the way it looks. This mobile phone from Motorola has a 2 megapixel digital camera.

We sat here and watched the video below and must say it is a cool looking phone, we can see why they have called it the AURA now. This phone does not have 3G support, WiFi or GPS which is a shame. The 16 million color with 300 dpi resolution display is definitely uniques and that is because it is round, it has a 62 Carat Lens made from Grade 1 62-carat sapphire crystal which makes it scratch-resistant.

The housing is Stainless steel with chemically etched textures and patterns, we love the rotating mechanism which has 130 precision ball bearings that drive the assisted-opening blade. The phone comes with CrystalTalkTM technology which will deliver supreme clarity during conversations and even better in noisy areas. microUSB port, Stereo Bluetooth, multimedia player, quad-band GSM connectivity, microSD card slot and 7.3 hours talk time with 400 hours if on standby. Now watch the video provided below and enjoy.

Are smartphones set to replace the PC?

Are smartphones set to replace the PC?Figures from a recent survey show that over 50 percent of desktop computer users would change from their PC to the smartphone for their internet usage. This illustrates just how well the mobile world is fulfilling its promise for next generation computing, according to the IBM survey which polled six hundred users in the UK, US and China.

Mobile handset internet connection is growing and expected to continue to grow to a staggering 5.8 billion by the year 2013, and this important message has sunk in with the mobile manufacturers and wireless carriers who all continually attempt to outdo each other with their latest superphone.

With mobile devices its all about the instant messaging, the latest news and the social networking, but some tasks still remain with the PC, such as online banking, stock trading, and such.

Is the Apple iPhone HD on its way?

Is the Apple iPhone HD on its way?The word doing the rounds on the net is that Apple has a new netbook or a type of Apple tablet in the works, and an unnamed search engine source reports it has noted web traffic from an unknown Apple device with a display resolution between a MacBook and that of an Apple iPhone.

Some are thinking that this mysterious device could possibly be the next generation iPhone, possibly an iPhone HD, all speculation I know but it is possible.

If you think about what Apple may be looking at in say the next 1.5 years, the iPhone HD is the most likely move. HTC already have the HTC Touch HD, and I’m sure Apple won’t be too long behind. So is Apple actually testing a new MacBook, perhaps the Tablet, or quite possible the Apple iPhone HD.

No Facebook for the Google Android T-Mobile G1

No Facebook for the Google Android T-Mobile G1A new war appears to be on the horizon within the mobile arena, this time between Google and Facebook. It appears that social networking giant Facebook doesn’t want anything to do with the Google Android platform, and will not be releasing an app for the Android OS.

Apparently issues appeared between the two internet giants when Facebook blocked Google’s Friend Connect saying there were security issues over the competing app. Although one must also remember that Facebook is invested in by Microsoft which we all know isn’t a big fan of Google.

However, Facebook say they haven’t completely ruled out an application for the T-Mobile G1 Android, but will not be dedicating any of there resources to making one, but this doesn’t mean other developers can’t.

Android developers allowed paid apps early next yearGoogle has launched the Android Market, and developers of Android applications will be able to upload their apps on Monday 27th Oct once they have wrapped up all the details such as Google requires registration along with a one time application fee of $25.00, which is to ensure developers are authenticated and responsible for their applications.

When a developer is authenticated they may upload apps for users without any more need for validation. Furthermore, come early 2009 developers will be allowed to offer android users paid apps and keep seventy percent of the revenue earned.

The remaining thirty percent will go to the carrier as Google themselves will not be taking a cut of the profits, which is a good thing for the developers.

Truphone today launched a beta of its mobile internet telephony service, Truphone Anywhere, for BlackBerry smartphones. When an international number is dialled, the Truphone software detects what is happening and takes over automatically. Truphone Anywhere will then make a domestic call to local Truphone server and sends to the server the international number being called. The Truphone server then makes an internet call to that number and connects that long-distance internet call with the domestic call the customer pays only for the call to the local Truphone server.

Sony Ericsson W902 Vs Sony Ericsson G705; Yet With Common Features

Sony Ericsson W902 Vs Sony Ericsson G705; Yet With Common Features was written by Day Kevi from free3gmobilephoneoffers.co.uk

Sony Ericsson W902 Vs Sony Ericsson G705; Yet With Common FeaturesWhen we consider the common features of the W902 and the G705 we can take into account the features like the video calling, video streaming, SMS, MMS, e-mail, instant messaging, predictive text input, Exchange Active Sync, FM radio, Track ID, play now, Bluetooth, Java games, Quad band technology, access Net Front etc. These features are common in the two widgets.

Via either the Sony Ericsson W902 or the Sony Ericsson G705 one can experience live chatting with the contacts as one can view the lively gestures of the contacts. One can also avail of the video streaming facility on these widgets. Even the typical communication features like the SMS, MMS, instant messaging and the predictive text input are available on these widgets. At times, the contacts may be falling short of time and they may not be in a position to have a talk over the phone. Under such circumstances the users can make good use of these features. These features will help convey ones messages which the contacts may go through during their free time. Such messages need not be always raw as one can decorate such messages with the MMS features. Moreover, the users can even utilise its instant messaging service which too is a lively chatting means. As these widgets have predictive text input the users need not spend much time in creating the text. This input predicts the words being typed by the users and help complete the whole text within no time.

Both the widgets support Bluetooth and offer the option to use the USB as well. So, the users can go wire-free and be free from the hassles associated with the wires. This technology helps transfer of data to any compatible device without the wires. Moreover, the transfer of data via the Sony Ericsson W902 and the Sony Ericsson G705 is three times faster than that of the GPRS as these widgets support EDGE technology. Normally, one can go roaming around the globe via the quad band technology of these widgets which cover GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900.

Listening to the FM radio programmes on the move can be retained with the W902 and the G705 as well. This is possible only because of the FM radio feature on both of this widgets. Not only that, these widgets support RDS features as well. As such, while listening to the favourite programmes on the FM one can view other information like the news, weather reports etc. on these widgets.

Just imagine the features like the Track ID and the Play now. Music lovers would not miss these features on these mobile phones. The TrackID is a music recognition feature that enables the music lovers to record a few seconds of any song.

The flight mode feature in both the Sony Ericsson W902 and the Sony Ericsson G705 enables the users to utilise certain features of the mobile phones while in restricted areas. These features help utilise the features which are not dangerous for the restricted areas. The 3G HSDP feature on both of these idgets enables the users to download data at higher rates and provides faster connectivity to the internet.

These are some of the similarities between the two. However, there are difference between them as well. To mention a few the G705 possesses Google maps, WiFi, GPS navigation feature with way finder navigator etc. The WiFi DLNA sharing on the G705 allows the users to make use of WiFi connectivity when linking the phone to compatible devices like the home TV or office TV. This enables the users to entertain large audience by displaying the pictures on large screen. While the internal memory of the W905 is 25 Mbytes along with Micro M2 memory support, the G705 supports 120 Mbytes of memory with memory stick Micro M2 support.

BlackBerry and iPhone call tagging

BlackBerry and iPhone call taggingThis is a great idea for BlackBerry or iPhone users, if you need to make notes regarding a particular phone call but you do not have a pen and paper handy, there is a nifty little software coming out that serves the purpose of tagging notes on your calls.

The Software called Momentum by a company called Redmond Technologies should be available for all Blackberry’s, the Bold, Storm, Pearl before the year is out. However it will take a little longer for it to be available for the Apple iPhone. Redmond will also be bringing the software to Window Mobile based devices and Symbian-based phones in the future.

The software basically allows you to organize your call history more efficiently. You will be able to search through your call history using an encrypted online application. You then will be-able to gain access to your call history, allowing business users to bill clients more accurately for expenses and resources and generally keep tabs on the call and recap on the call time after time and go right back into your call history.

President of Redwood, Terry Hughes said that the software may expand onto Music tagging on software like iTunes allowing the user to tag their music downloads.

Hands-on video: BlackBerry Javelin vs BlackBerry Bold

Hands-on video: BlackBerry Javelin vs BlackBerry BoldThe BlackBerry 8900 Javelin, the down range brother of the BlackBerry Bold still actually incorporated quite a few of the BlackBerry Bold’s features and design cues, but comes at an easier price on your wallet.

Although Research In Motion’s BlackBerry 8900 Javelin does make a few sacrifices in the name of penny saving, but does make up for it in other ways. The Javelin loses the 3G connectivity, and is replaced by GSM and EDGE.

However, the BlackBerry Javelin does offer a 3.2 megapixel camera and 480 x 360 pixel display rather than the BlackBerry Bold’s 480 x 320 pixel display and 2 megapixel camera, which does make the BlackBerry 8900 Javelin a serious contender to be considered.

The latest shades also come with soft touch finish which gives a better grip, is smoother to the feel and also has a smudge free exterior so no more nasty smudges. Also there is a new dark grey button bar with trimming round the sides.

The Centro’s keyboard also feels as if it is an upgraded material, but still the same Palm OS Garnet v4.5.9, but there is that double RAM and the enhancements to Google Maps, My Location, and the addition of Palm’s new Facebook client and Astraware’s Sudoku.

Apple iPhone GPS used to propose marriage?

Apple iPhone GPS used to propose marriage? The Apple iPhone has gained a new use, the art of proposing marriage would you believe? Apparently, Californian resident Dan Deeble actually proposed to his girlfriend by his Apple iPhone this week…and she accepted.

It may sound geeky or even unromantic and impersonal, but Dan didn’t propose by a simple text message or even a lame email, but according to a report, Dan used a free Apple iPhone app called Scribular, which works with the iPhone’s GPS to tag specific locations with notes which are readable by other iPhoners who use the Scribular app.

Dan brought girlfriend Crystal an iPhone with Scribular loaded and led her on a virtual hunt before popping the big question. Dan told Crystal to check Scribular throughout the day which leads her to several notes that Dan had placed around Sacramento.

Video: Apple iPhone 3G YESSIM hardware unlocker

Video: Apple iPhone 3G YESSIM hardware unlockerWe are all aware that the Apple iPhone 3G cannot be unlocked simply using by software methods, well that is until the iPhone Dev Team come up with a solution, and they are getting closer apparently. One such solution is YESSIM, which attaches to the iPhone’s original SIM card and works by tricking the iPhone 3G into thinking it is still using its original SIM provided by the carrier.

Apple iPhone gains Ralph Lauren application

Apple iPhone gains Ralph Lauren applicationThe Apple iPhone is obviously popular, virtually everyone wants one, and now fashion designer Ralph Lauren has joined the iPhone brigade by launching a free Apple iPhone application for iPhone users.

The Ralph Lauren iPhone app allows iPhoners to view highlights from the Fall 2008 runway show, iPhoners get to go behind the scenes to view the Backstage Pass gallery, locate stores around the world, take a peek at the Spring 2009 runway show, and view a short film “Portraits of a Collection,” which shows the artists at work.

Basically the Ralph Lauren app for iPhone is an optimised website turned app. Obviously the iPhoner can’t read those QR codes, which are featured in Ralph Lauren ads, and they can’t purchase from the shop, but maybe both these important features will come in future releases.

Nokia and Kodak join in patent license deal

Nokia and Kodak join in patent license dealLooks like Nokia has struck a deal with Kodak, as whispers hit the net that Nokia and Eastman Kodak Company have entered a mysterious patent license agreement, although any details of such an agreement are quite scant.

The word doing the rounds is this Nokia - Kodak deal will enable both outfits to give “access to the other’s intellectual property portfolio,” and apparently provide “significant benefits to both companies, [while being] royalty bearing to Kodak.”

Other than that there’s not much word on this agreement or what the mobile arena can expect from this joining. Maybe we will start seeing Kodak sensors appearing on new Nokia handsets in the near future.

Google Android not good enough says Sprint CEO Hesse

Google Android not good enough says Sprint CEO HesseLooks like the CEO of Sprint is trying to stir up a little battle of words with Google and their Android, as apparently Sprint’s CEO, Dan Hesse made a rather scathing comment to the National Press Club in Washington.

The word is Hesse casually spouted out that he doesn’t feel that Google Android is “good enough to put the Sprint brand on,” well at least in its present form anyway.

Sprint has been quite friendly with Google in the past, and Hesse has said Sprint will sell Android based handsets at sometime in the future, however Hesse has said that Sprint is in the position whereby they can shy away from Android if it so wished.

BlackBerry Bold and Pearl gets live video streaming

BlackBerry Bold and Pearl gets live video streamingIf you own a BlackBerry Pearl or BlackBerry Bold you will be able to download software called Qik, which basically allows you to stream live video to the web directly from your phone as Qik now supports RIM’s BlackBerry platform, although it is only available in alpha state so you could find yourself with a few problems or bugs. If you own the BlackBerry Curve or BlackBerry Flip there will be a later release coming out very soon.

Qik Being on the Research in Motions BlackBerry platform helps reinforce Qik’s position as leader of device support in front of Kyte and Flixwagon as none of these softwares support BlackBerry.

Although, new software launched called Next2Friends being the first streaming video application that supports BlackBerry may give Qik a run for its money.

It’s not only the RIM BlackBerry platform that Qik supports, it also supports J2ME platform which is a platform that you will find on a lot of various phones. There is still no news as to when Apple’s iPhone will get Qik, but we will keep you posted.

Telus and Bell BlackBerry Storm 9530 Update: Photos

Telus and Bell BlackBerry Storm 9530 Update: PhotosRogers Wireless has said they sold 255,000 Apple iPhone 3G handsets in Q3 of 08, which obviously means a nice slice of Apple iPhone cash filtering into the Rogers bank account, which no doubt is a pretty penny.

Although the Rogers sales is no patch on the Apple iPhone’s worldwide sales, and Rogers is way overshadowed by AT&T’s Apple iPhone 3G sales for Q3 of 08.

Having said they, it is not small feat to add 193,000 net post-paid subscribers to the Rogers network, so it does appear that the Canadian carrier is doing fairly well for themselves. And therefore does raise the question mentioned in an earlier post (see here) why does Rogers need to cut commission?

Android Market: Now available for users

Android Market: Now available for usersLast month I outlined some details around Android Market. Today, Android Market launched for users to download applications along with the first Android-powered phone—the T-Mobile G1.

With Android Market, users can easily download apps to their Android-powered phone. Users can also rate the apps they've downloaded and leave comments. These users' ratings along with anonymous usage statistics help determine how apps are ranked and presented within Android Market.

If you're a developer, you will be able to register and upload your applications starting next Monday, 2008-10-27, when we've wrapped up a few final details. In order to make sure that each developer is authenticated and responsible for their apps, you will need to register and pay a one time $25 application fee. Once registered, your apps can be made available to users without further validation or approval.

Starting in early Q1, developers will also be able to distribute paid apps in addition to free apps. Developers will get 70% of the revenue from each purchase; the remaining amount goes to carriers and billing settlement fees—Google does not take a percentage. We believe this revenue model creates a fair and positive experience for users, developers, and carriers.

There are already over 50 apps available in Android Market today. You can view a showcase of some of these apps—which include multimedia, location-based tools, barcode scanners, travel guides and games—at http://www.android.com/market/. Now that Android Market is live and ready for contributions, we hope to see developers adding their own compelling apps starting next week.

In the coming months, we'll continue to roll out additional tools and enhancements to Android Market. We also expect to see additional Android-powered devices rolling out by different carriers around the world. Starting today, you can get a device, test your apps on it, and get them ready for upload. On Monday, to share your app with the world, simply register, upload your application and publish it. It's really that easy. I look forward to seeing what you bring to the Market.

Google G1 Vs iPhone BeauGoogle G1 Vs iPhone Beauty or the Beast?ty or the Beast?

Google G1 Vs iPhone BeauGoogle G1 Vs iPhone Beauty or the Beast?ty or the Beast? It’s no secret that Google’s first foray into the lucrative mobile phone market happened today in London, but what exactly can the Google G1 offer over the extremely popular iPhone 3G. Well for starters the iPhone wins hands down within the looks department, the Google G1 is the ugly duckling whereas the iPhone stunning sleek look is a must for many fashionista’s, however some may be put off by its popularity. But they say beauty is only skin deep and maybe the G1 beast will surprise us with its inner strengths.

Yes, the Google G1 does just that, the inner strength is how the G1 will attract the masses, with its Android open-source operating system which is partly developed by Google. The G1 definitely gets a ten out of ten for usability. It boasts a slightly better camera than the iPhone at three-megapixels but again just like the iPhone it cannot record video. It has a 3.2 inch touchscreen display and a slide out keyboard, although it must be said that the block on the right hand side of the unit and the ultra small keys do not sit pretty with keen typists.

It’s the operating systems and applications that really shine on the G1, the built in GPS works wonders with Google Maps, and for those of you who doesn’t know their north to their south you will find a handy internal compass allowing you to know which your heading at all times.

The G1 accesses the internet with high speed via the 3G phone network and Wi-Fi. The User interface is pretty good, you can move across the page by moving your fingers across the G1’s touchscreen, if you want to access the Google search bar this can be done with just one click and even when you are in another program.

The Android operating system shines in many ways, one is that the potential for improvements are huge, with the platform open to developers allowing them to create countless applications for the mobile handsets. We believe the Google G1 is much more a pocket computer than a mobile phone.

So for that reason I think it will attract a different type of consumer to the iPhone, the Apple smartphone is desirable accessory for the fashionista among us that a complex Smartphone, many iPhone users probably have no clue as to the phones capabilities. Whereas the T-Mobile G1 users will be buy it for just that, to use the G1 in every way possible and if that’s as a pocket computer then so be it.

iPhone Text Technology thanks to Apple Mac OS X Snow LeopardThe word doing the rounds at the moment is that modern text handling tech that have been made popular by the Apple iPhone should next year turn up on Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard release.

Screens of the build 10A190 of the OS show a new version of Apple’s TextEdit app is to offer the user at least 3 new text handling operations. The first is a sample of the Apple iPhone interface and offers to correct spelling automatically as you type.

Microsoft Vs Apple MobileMe: Live Mesh for Mac

Microsoft Vs Apple MobileMe: Live Mesh for MacIt looks like Microsoft is preparing to take on Apple’s MobileMe by putting out a Mac version of their LiveMesh file synchronising service, and apparently beta copies are now undergoing tests. The announcement was made at the Professional Developers Conference.

Microsoft LiveMesh is a Software Plus Serive app which can sync files between PCs and store files in a Microsoft Cloud server. Apparently the Mac version will sync file between Macs, Windows Mobile phones, and PCs, although it won’t be able to sync with the Apple iPhone.

Ian Moulster, Microsoft’s Windows Live Commercial Lead says “At mesh.com you have the Live Desktop which is a Web based storage space containing folders. On your computer, you can right-click on a file and select ‘add to my mesh’. After a few seconds the folder will turn blue to signify that it’s been added to your Mesh.”

Wal-Mart Vs T-Mobile: HTC G1 Android phone for $148.88

Wal-Mart Vs T-Mobile: HTC G1 Android phone for $148.88Maybe a price war is on its way between T-Mobile and Wal-Mart Inc. As Wal-Mart vie for the holiday season’s customer cash by selling the Google Android T-Mobile HTC G1 smartphone at a discounted price.

Wal-Mart will carry Google Inc’s G1 smartphone which is sold through Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile USA, in 550 of their stores for just $148.88 for new customers; while existing customers will be offered an upgrade if they sign for 2 years.

T-Mobile USA is currently offering the G1 for $179.99 so they can save $31.11 simply by buying the G1 from Wal-Mart. However with the run up to the holiday season will this force T-Mobile USA to reconsider the price and enter a pricing war?
